Glucophage.

Dosage regimen is fixed individually.

Initial dose is 0.5-1 g/day. After 10-15 days further gradually increasing dose is possible and it depends on the level of hypoglycemia. Maintenance dose is on average 1.5-2 g/day. The highest dose - 3 g/day. To reduce side effects from the gastrointestinal tract the daily dose should be divided into 2-3 times.

Side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, metallic aftertaste in the mouth, anorexia, wind, abdominal pains, lacticemia (requires the drug cancellation), hypovitaminosis of vitamin B12, megaloblastic anemia, skin eruption.

Contraindications:
• diabetic ketoacidosis;
• diabetic coma and precomatose states;
• kidneys dysfunction;
• acute diseases in which there is a risk of kidney dysfunction;
• lactic acidosis (including anamnesis);
• dehydration (with diarrhea, vomiting);
• fever, severe infectious diseases;
• serious injuries and surgical interferences;
• liver dysfunction;
• chronic alcoholism and acute alcoholic poisoning;
• period - 2 days before and 2 days after the radioisotopic or X-ray examinations with use of iodine-containing contrast agents;
• hypocaloric diet (less than 1000 kcal /day);
• pregnancy;
• lactation;
• hypersensitivity to this drug.
